Relaxed, warm live acoustic guitar while your guests celebrate, outside in the sunshine or inside your venue.
The wedding drinks reception is one of my favourite parts of a wedding day to play, and for good reason. After the ceremony, the mood lifts, people relax, the drinks start flowing, and your guests finally get a chance to mingle and celebrate together. Live acoustic guitar fits that atmosphere perfectly.
As a wedding drinks reception guitarist based in Worcestershire, I play relaxed, recognisable acoustic music at a level that lets conversation flow easily. Songs people know and love, from the Beatles and Elton John through to Ed Sheeran and beyond, played warmly in the background without ever taking over.
What often surprises couples is how much their guests notice and appreciate it. People come up and make requests, comment on a song that means something to them, or simply remark that the music made the whole occasion feel different. That's what live music does that a playlist can't.
"We didn't have to worry about a thing. Stuart is knowledgeable and thinks about where best to be located to make the most for the guests."— Kayleigh Tipper
A wedding drinks reception typically lasts an hour to an hour and a half, long enough for a playlist to feel flat, and exactly the right length for a live guitarist to make a real impression. Here's what it adds.
While you're off having photographs taken, your guests are being entertained. Live music gives people something to listen to, comment on, and enjoy, it fills the time naturally and keeps the atmosphere warm.
Background music should be background music. I play at a level that's clearly present and enjoyable without making conversation difficult. Guests can hear the music and still talk to each other, that balance matters.
I play music people know and like, not obscure instrumental pieces. When guests hear a song they love played live, it creates a moment. That's something a carefully curated Spotify playlist simply doesn't replicate.
I bring multiple speakers so I can cover different areas of your venue simultaneously, outdoors for drinks in the sunshine, and inside if guests move around. Everything is set up before your guests arrive.
Most couples want their drinks reception outside, weather permitting, and I'm well set up for it. I bring equipment that works well outdoors and set up in whichever area your guests will be gathering, whether that's a courtyard, a garden terrace, or the grounds of the venue.
One thing that often catches couples off guard is how far guests spread out during a drinks reception. I use multiple speakers positioned across different areas so that the music reaches wherever your guests happen to be, including spots your photographer might take you to for portraits.
If the weather changes or the plan shifts, I can adapt quickly. I know most of the venues I play at well enough to have a backup plan in mind before I arrive.
Something couples don't always think about until afterwards: if you book me only for the ceremony, you spend the drinks reception away from the venue having photographs taken, and you miss the live music entirely.
Booking me for the drinks reception means that when you come back from photographs and re-join your guests, the music is still playing. You get to experience it yourself, not just hear about it later.
Some couples also choose the drinks reception and wedding breakfast combination instead of the ceremony, particularly if they want a specific recorded song for the aisle walk. It means you're actually present for all of the live music, sitting with your guests and enjoying it as it happens. It's worth thinking about when you're planning which parts of the day to cover.
I'm based in Worcestershire and available as a wedding drinks reception guitarist across the West Midlands and surrounding counties, including Warwickshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, and into Birmingham and Solihull.
I know many of the region's most popular wedding venues well, including their outdoor spaces and how they work for live music. That familiarity means better music placement, smoother setup, and one less thing for you to think about on the day.
Including Curradine Barns, Crumplebury, Hogarths Stone Manor, Grafton Manor, Nailcote Hall, Arley House & Gardens, Gorcott Hall, Blackwell Grange, Clearwell Castle and Ettington Park Hotel. Not on the list? Get in touch, I cover a wide area and am likely to know your venue or somewhere nearby.
