Curradine Barns is one of those venues I always look forward to returning to. I've played there a number of times, ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast, and it has a warmth that suits live acoustic guitar naturally.
Nestled in Shrawley, between Worcester and Kidderminster, Curradine Barns is a restored 19th-century red-brick barn set in rolling Worcestershire countryside. The Granary Barn, with its original oak beams, exposed brickwork, and wrought-iron chandelier, is an atmospheric ceremony space. The Barley Barn hosts the wedding breakfast with traditional character and a light-filled glass extension. Outside, the Courtyard is among the finest drinks reception spaces I play anywhere in the county.
I cover every part of the day at Curradine Barns, here is how the music works across the different spaces.
The acoustics in the Granary Barn are warm rather than echoey, which suits fingerstyle guitar particularly well. Notes fill the space cleanly without bouncing around. For a room of that character, one well-placed speaker is usually enough, I set up toward the front or to one side depending on the room arrangement.
For the drinks reception, I move to the Courtyard, the main gathering space while couples are away with their photographer. I bring a separate speaker so there is no gap in music, no fuss, and no delay. If the photographer takes you elsewhere in the grounds, I can cover that too with the right setup arranged in advance.
The Barley Barn carries sound evenly across the room, which matters more than people expect when music needs to reach every table without any single table feeling like it's sitting next to a speaker. I've played enough weddings in that room to know exactly how to strike the right balance.
Most couples at Curradine Barns choose one of three options, but I am always happy to discuss combinations that suit your day best.
I play as your guests arrive and take their seats, through your entrance, the signing of the register, and your exit, then move to the drinks area and continue through your guests' celebrations. The most popular combination.
Ceremony musicA great option if you want a specific recorded song for the ceremony. I take over from the drinks reception onwards, meaning you get to be present and enjoy the live music alongside your guests.
Drinks receptionFull day coverage, live acoustic guitar from the moment your guests arrive right through to the end of the wedding breakfast. I would discuss timings and transitions with you in advance so everything is planned and nothing left to chance.
Full day optionsWhichever option you choose, I always invite you to come and sit down with me beforehand to go through your song choices. I am very happy to learn songs not already on my set list, and if anything doesn't translate well to guitar, I'll tell you honestly, and we will find something that does.
One of the most recent weddings I played at Curradine Barns was Debbie and Adam's April celebration, a relaxed, intimate day for around 40 guests in the Barley Barn. I was asked to play during the wedding breakfast, and from the moment I arrived, it was clear this was a couple who had put thought into every part of their day. Debbie and Adam were happy to leave the song choices largely to me, which I always enjoy, it means I can read the room and choose songs that suit the moment, starting gently as guests settle in, then building as the room relaxes.
"The music had really made the day."
There is something about a barn setting that acoustic guitar suits particularly well. The exposed timber, the brickwork, the flagstone floors, they absorb sound in a way that feels natural and unhurried. The music does not overpower the conversation; it sits underneath it. From a musician's point of view, the acoustics are warm and clear, which suits fingerstyle playing particularly well, notes fill the space cleanly without ever feeling loud. The aim is always to complement the day, not compete with it.
If you are planning your wedding at Curradine Barns and would like to talk about live music, I would love to hear from you. There is no obligation and no pressure, just a conversation about what you are imagining for your day.
